Financial Management Communication Program
Build the communication skills that bridge numbers and people
Most finance professionals can read a balance sheet. But can you explain what it means to someone who doesn't live in spreadsheets? This eight-month program focuses on something business schools rarely teach—how to talk about money in ways people actually understand.

Why Communication Matters More Than You Think
We've worked with finance teams across Melbourne for over a decade. The pattern's consistent—technical skills get you hired, but communication determines how far you go.
Think about the last time you presented financial data to non-finance colleagues. Did their eyes glaze over? Did they nod along without really getting it? That disconnect costs businesses real money. Projects stall when stakeholders don't grasp budget implications. Strategic decisions suffer when financial context gets lost in translation.
Our approach isn't about dumbing things down. It's about respecting your audience enough to meet them where they are. You'll learn to adjust your communication style without losing accuracy or depth.
Starting September 2025, we're running our most comprehensive program yet. Small groups, real scenarios, feedback that actually helps you improve.
What You'll Actually Learn
Eight months sounds like a long time. But financial communication isn't something you pick up in a weekend workshop. These modules build on each other—each one adding another layer to your skillset.
Reading Your Audience
Board members care about different things than department heads. Your CEO needs different context than your operations manager. We'll help you map stakeholder priorities and adjust your message accordingly. This foundation matters because everything else builds on it.
Visual Storytelling with Data
Charts and graphs can clarify or confuse. You'll learn which visualizations work for different types of information and audiences. More importantly, you'll understand when a simple table beats a fancy dashboard. The goal is clarity, not decoration.
Speaking Without Jargon
Financial terminology serves a purpose within finance teams. But terms like "amortization" or "EBITDA" create barriers in cross-functional conversations. We'll help you build a vocabulary that's precise without being exclusive. You'll keep technical terms when they add value and replace them when they don't.
Presenting Under Pressure
Budget meetings get tense. Forecasts change at the last minute. Stakeholders challenge your assumptions in front of others. This module focuses on keeping your message clear when the environment isn't calm. We use recorded practice sessions so you can see your own patterns and adjust them.
Written Communication That Works
Emails, reports, proposals—each format has different requirements. You'll learn to structure financial information so busy readers can quickly find what matters to them. Length isn't the enemy; lack of structure is.
Who You'll Learn From
Our instructors combine current finance roles with teaching experience. They understand the communication challenges you face because they navigate them regularly in their own work.
Declan Ashworth
Lead Instructor
Declan spent fifteen years as a management accountant before transitioning into training. He's presented to boards, managed cross-functional projects, and dealt with every type of difficult stakeholder meeting you can imagine. His teaching focuses on practical techniques that work in real business environments.

Communication Specialist
Brennan bridges finance and communications consulting. He works with finance teams who need to improve how they share information across organizations. His background includes journalism, which gives him a unique perspective on making complex information accessible without losing important nuance.

What Makes This Different
You could read books about financial communication. Watch videos. Sit through webinars. But those approaches skip the most valuable part—practice with feedback.
Every session includes exercises where you present to the group and receive specific feedback. Not generic praise or vague suggestions. Detailed observations about what's working and what could improve. Over eight months, you'll present dozens of times in various formats and scenarios.
We record your presentations (with your permission) so you can review them later. Most participants say watching themselves present reveals patterns they never noticed before. Sometimes it's filler words. Sometimes it's pacing. Sometimes it's visual aids that don't support the message.
The peer group matters too. You'll meet finance professionals from different industries and company sizes. They'll challenge your assumptions, share their own experiences, and become part of your professional network.
